The Volunteer State Specialty License Plate is a great way to support Friends of Volunteer Tennessee. Specialty license plates continue to be available during the pre-sale for Tennessee drivers. State law requires a minimum of 1,000 pre-orders before the plates go into production. Now is the time to order yours!
Note: This product is $35 + $2 in fees associated with the payment platform and processing fees. In future renewals, the fee will only be $35 that will go directly to the State of Tennessee.

How much does it cost?
The cost of the pre-order plate is $35. A portion of the proceeds from each plate goes to Friends of Volunteer Tennessee. The annual fee for a specialty license plate in Tennessee is currently $61.50 (versus the standard plate fee of $26.50). A portion of each yearly specialty plate fee will also go to Friends of Volunteer Tennessee so, when you have a "Volunteer State" l License Plate, you are supporting volunteerism and service every day of the year!
What does the $37 purchase of this plate benefit?
Minus a small production cost to produce the plates, about 50% of the fee is allocated to Friends of Volunteer Tennessee, about 40% to the TN Arts Commission, and about 10% to the TN Highway fund.
$2 of the online purchase goes to cover the cost of the payment platform and processing fees. In future renewals, the cost will only be $35 that will be paid directly to the State of Tennessee.
Can I order a specific numbered plate?
Specific numbered or personalized plates are not available for the pre-sale of 1000 plates. You will have that option on the next renewal of your specialty plate.
How do I order my plate after the 1,000-preorder period has ended?
You may purchase the plate at your local county clerk’s office at your renewal once they have been produced.
Can I choose my plate number in the second year of production?

Who designed the plate?
Friends of Volunteer Tennessee's "Volunteer State” license plate was designed by East Tennessee artist, Paris Woodhull, who graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

Is there a limit to the number of plates I can order?
The specialty plate is available for vehicles registered in TN excluding commercial vehicles. If you own more than one vehicle, you may want to order this specialty license plate for each vehicle. Registration applies to a single vehicle.
Is this the final design of the the plate?
Yes, this plate design was approved by the Friends of Volunteer Tennessee Board. Minor adjustments may occur as part of the production process.
I live outside Tennessee, may I still pre-order a plate?
You must be a resident of Tennessee to purchase a Friends of Volunteer Tennessee specialty license plate.
